As soon as I found out I was having a baby, I rushed to the bookstore and purchased what I’ve always heard is “the only pregnancy book you’ll need.” I picked up my copy of What to Expect When Expecting on my lunch hour and read the first chapter sitting in my car in the bookstore parking lot… all while inhaling Chick-fil-a (I was pregnant after all).
Throughout my pregnancy I not only read the book, but was addicted to the What to Expect iPhone app (okay, I was addicted to that and milkshakes). I tracked my pregnancy daily and the forums were – and still are – great for connecting with other new moms. Thanks to What to Expect, I actually feel like I know what I’m doing every once in a while and now I’m happy to be able to pass that along to two of my readers.
The nice folks at What To Expect have teamed up with me to host a giveaway featuring their must-have books for any momma or momma to be. They make excellent gifts too, so even if you’ve got no plans to wipe poo off butts any time soon, feel free to enter for a friend.
Two lucky winners will receive the following three books:
● What to Expect When Expecting
● What to Expect the First Year
● What to Expect the Second Year
How to enter:
Leave a comment telling me what part of pregnancy you have heard about or experienced that you did you not expect OR which book you are most excited about. Please make sure you include your email in the comment form.
Extra chances to win:
Mention the giveaway on Twitter up to three times per day (be sure to include @sarahfortune in your Tweet).
*Giveaway ends at 9:00 pm Central on Monday, December 5, 2011 and winners will be selected by Random.org*
I’ll leave you with this photo Todd snuck of me right after we found out the good news…
So far, my least favorite part is glucola! I’m having to test for GD early, and my 3-hour test is tomorrow at 13 weeks!
Yeah, you read that right! :p
I had no idea that gall bladder problems were so common during or after pregnancy. I ended up in the ER when my baby was 5 weeks – all of the nurses and doctors knew exactly what my problem was as soon as I said I had a new baby. This was my 4th, and I had never heard that before!
My story starts out very sad, but will hopefully have a happy ending. I lost my first pregnancy at 18 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. It wasn’t until after the miscarriage did I learn how common miscarriages are and I had had no idea about incompetent cervix-es. I am now 20 weeks into my second pregnancy armed with a surgical cerclage so my baby will hopefully stay snug for a long time!
I had heard of pregnancy bringing along heartburn/acid reflux. Know that I am 5 months pregnant and experiencing it on a daily basis, Tums are my best friend!
I’d love all three books! My sister is pregnant and I’d love to give them as a gift this Christams!
Well, I’m not expecting and don’t plan on expecting for at least another year (although I’m deep in babyfever goo), but I would GLADLY pass on What to Expect The First Year to a friend that had a babyboy almost a month ago! Even the Second Year would be good for her!
Thanks!
I did not expect it to be so difficult to get pregnant!
I learned that epidurals are wonderful (I had them with all three of my children), UNLESS they accidentally don’t hit the right spot (or they tap your spine, which happened to me). When you get an epidural, the doctors also pump you full of pitocin because the epidural slows down dilation; pitocin makes labor harder…so if you get an epidural that doesn’t work, your labor pains are more painful. 12 hours of painful, hard labor AND a signed release form that accepts the fact that you could be paralyzed or dead to avoid the very pain you are having.
P.S. and I am expecting again. 7 weeks in. Still as clueless as with the first one. They are all so different.
I did not expect to lose weight in the first trimester. I guess that’s what morning sickness will do to a girl
i just wanted to say that even though i’m not expecting yet, i hope to be very soon. i would love to be the lucky winner!
I am most excited to read the 1st and 2nd year books since I had my baby boy in September.
I’m a newlywed and am hoping for a honeymoon knock up! We leave for St. Maarten in two weeks. I’d love to dive into these books when I get back.
I didn’t expect there would be so much to learn! I need these books
My husband and I have been trying, so these would be perfect for us! (fingers crossed!! )
I too am hoping to be expecting soon! Hopefully these will come in handy soon.
My “baby” turns 1 in a few weeks. I need the second year book ASAP!
These would make a great gift for my best friend. Maybe for me one day too
A lot of the important things on earth happen to be accomplished by folks who suffer from maintained on trying when there was no hope whatsoever.
There’s no time for cut-and-dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves not one other time!
Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and wished to say that

Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my
own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Great job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more
than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
