It took months of careful thought and lots of vetoing (on Todd’s part), but we have finally decided on a name for our little girl. Turns out, that wasn’t even the hard part. Once we had the first and middle name together, it just felt right. But agreeing on how to spell the darn thing was a different task.
Finally though, we have her name and here it is…
We chose this name mostly because, well, we like it.
But it has a little special meaning too.
Iris is the Tennessee state flower, where Todd and I were both born.
Delle was my grandmother’s middle name. She was one of my favorite people in the whole wide world and she passed away shortly after I found out I was pregnant. My hope is that Iris can have a slice of her name and perhaps a slice of her sweet, quirky personality too. With the genes she’s getting though, I’m sure quirky will be no trouble at all.
congrats, i love it!
Beautiful!
I can’t wait to meet my little Grandflower.
it’s perfect and i love how it defines both of you. great memory to your family.
such a sweet name and just a little bit old fashioned (in a good way!) too, which is really nice.
Love!
Perfect!!
Love it!
i love it! as a tennesseean myself, i think it is extra special!
Iris is on our list too! And we are also having a baby in October!
Just came across your blog and it’s so great to find someone who is due the same time as me. Can’t wait to read more!
I am enjoying your site and your pregnancy journey. It is so much fun!
I love your name for baby.
You are showing your pregnancy beautifully. I am 19 weeks and still looking more bulged than round. I am sure this will change in just a few weeks. 😉
Contests and best wishes.
So lovely… the iris was my great-grandmother (Mary-Helen’s) favorite flower. And I look forward to seeing it every spring. Congrats on naming her. She’s a beauty already! xo.
p.s. I love how your dad calls her his “grandflower!” Cuuuute.
So. Stinkin’. Cute. I love it, Sarah!
