Baby Blog: One Month Old

This past Saturday Iris turned a whole MONTH old. I seriously can’t believe how fast the weeks are flying by.

At one month old, she often seems older than she really is. Maybe it’s the full helmet of hair. Maybe it’s her size. Maybe it’s that she’s already smiling a TON and lifting her head for long periods of time. She seems super strong and she’s always super hungry. Recently that’s come with some super fuss too. We aren’t very close to having a schedule yet, but I’ve been lucky to sleep for three to four hours straight at night fairly often.

I’m in the midst of writing about her birth, so that will come soon. But for now, let me share some photos from the past couple of weeks…

Here we are on her one month birthday.

Yep. Still in love.

Silly girl, silly dad.

Like father, like daughter.

We’ve been loving the autumn weather.

A rainy, autumn morning.

It’s perfect for snuggles.

Sadie Pup found a baby to snuggle with.

And kisses. Lots of them.

And so did I. #nevergettingoutofbed

I love that my life now includes finding tiny socks on the floor.

Iris hated sponge baths, but now likes the real thing.

Bath time!

And our cat likes to help out.

While Grandma likes to tuck in her pants like Steve Urkle.

She had her first nap in the crib (she sleeps in a bassinet in our room for now).

First nap in the crib. Drifted off listening to the Lucero album daddy played on.

She had visitors from out of town. Lots of them, with lots of love.

Iris & Stephanie.

Mani pedi time with @kerrisnead & @brandyduffett

I told you she likes to eat.

What a dumpling!

At three weeks she was already fitting into some of her three month clothes.

My 3 week old is already wearing 3 month old clothing.

Thank god she doesn’t mind playing dress up.

In her fancy dress & bonnet.

Look who's excited that @kerrisnead & Brandy are visiting from Memphis today!

Hey good lookin.

She'll have to grow into it, but she loves her new shirt! (especially since Daddy designed it)

She met her new friend, Rosalyn.
And slept through the whole thing.

My BFF @ginrunner had Rosalyn two weeks after Iris was born. Yesterday they met for the first time! 

We often have story time with Goodnight Moon (my favorite from when I was little).

Never too young for a bowl full of mush.

And every night dad sings her songs.

Her first concert.

Dad's songs are the best songs.

Baby Blog: The first weeks

How do mommy bloggers do it?

Despite being home almost 24/7 (and awake for the majority of it), I have zero time to blog. The times that I do have, I’m busy trying to catch a nap or scarfing down food while I can. All other moments are spent with my sweet baby girl and away from my laptop. I’m so behind on everything (why didn’t someone tell me that Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard broke up?!) and I’m lucky if I ever get dressed for the day.

I wouldn’t change a single moment of it though. Iris’ first weeks have been incredible and are already going by way too fast. Here are a few noteworthy things and my favorite moments…

She’s been to the doctor twice, for a 1 week & 2 week check up.

2 week check up

At the first visit, she had only lost 3 ounces, which we were told is excellent for a newborn since she could lose up to 10% of her body weight in the first week. By her next visit she was past her birth weight at 10 pounds, 2 ounces. Baby girl likes to eat. She’s in the 97th percentile for body weight, 90th percentile for height, and 75th percentile for head circumference.

She loves her hands. Her favorite is to touch her face and she already twirls her hair (can you blame her?). It’s funny because when we did our 3D ultrasound, she had her hands on her face almost the entire time.

Iris Adella 3D Ultrasound

She makes the sweetest sounds when she’s sleeping.

Her first public appearance was to, where else? Target.

Her first public appearance. (Target... duh)

She had a lovely weekend visit with my dad, her Grandpa Don.

Grandpa & Iris.

She had a play date with Seger (while I had a play date with Taylor)

I think I already hear wedding bells... (@taylorsutton)

We get the morning started with music. This time it was Al Green.

Waking up with a little Al Green.

And we play dress up all day.

She doesn’t mind baths, but hates having her hair washed.

Well, we still hate baths.

But I love washing her hair because it turns into CURLS!

Curls.

During tummy time she tries her hardest to crawl away.

Tummy time with friends.

One of these bunnies kept me up all night.

She loves her Aunt Katie.

She popped her first wheelie on our family walk.

And I do mean the whole family.

She’s made it through two Razorback football wins.

Game day. #wps

I had my own win: my first beer since January!

My first drink in 10 months. Cheers!

For her first Halloween, she was a banana with her dad.

Happy Halloween from our little family!

Rosalyn, her new BFF, was born just two weeks after Iris. How perfect is that?

Meeting Rosalyn for the first time  (@ginrunner)

Mostly though, she made us smile. Over and over.

Oh hi there.

Two weeks ago I made this.

Baby Blog: Meet Iris Adella

A big smile & one curl.

Well, she’s here and more amazing than anything we could have ever imagined. In this week and a half since she was born, all I’ve wanted to do is hold her, snuggle her, and kiss her, which leaves very little time to blog. But while she’s snoozing away in her swing, I thought I’d try to get a quick update in. When I have a little bit more time, I’ll write about her birth and how things have been going, but for now here are some photos of our sweet, sweet Iris.

You can also visit her official birth announcement at irisadella.com
(yes, our baby already has a website).

Iris Adella Gill

9 pounds, 14 ounces
20 3/4 inches long
and an absurd amount of beautiful hair

My motherly instinct was right – she’s a biggie!
And we are so in love with every tiny chunk of her.

More pictures and details of the birth will come,
but for now we’re resting happy and healthy at home.

Thank you for following our journey…
It’s just begun.

Pregnancy Blog: 27 weeks

Pregnancy Blog: 27 weeks

As of this week, I’m officially in the third trimester! I have as many weeks of pregnancy left as I had completed when I started blogging about this madness. That puts things into perspective.

I had a busy day at the doctor’s office this past week, as it was time for the dreaded Glucose tolerance test. This is given to just about everyone nowadays to test for gestational diabetes and involves drinking a super sweet, syrupy orange drink and then waiting an hour to have your blood drawn. I should get the results in the next few days, but fingers crossed that I pass. If you fail, it doesn’t mean that you have gestational diabetes, but there’s a more intense test (and drink) that you have to take to find out for sure.

While at the doctor’s office, I also got a Rhogham shot for my negative blood type. You can read all about that here in this debbie downer post from my 17th week. They’re also testing to make sure that I haven’t built up any antibodies, which would mean the negative blood type still isn’t an issue. Besides that, I’m happy to report that everything I was concerned about in that post is no longer an issue!

Lately though, I have had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions, which are practice contractions to help get your body get ready for labor. I asked my doctor if it is okay that I was having more than a few per day and, while she said this was normal, she tested me for pre-term labor just to be safe. Thankfully, the test came back negative, so no worries there. Even though Iris Adella could survive if she was born today, it’s certainly best to keep her cookin for a good while longer.

Now for the fun stuff…

● I’m getting excited for my baby shower, which is just a month away.

● All of our nursery furniture came in! We have it set up, but the decorating is going a bit slow. I’m loving how simple & clean the room is right now, but I think after the shower I’ll have a better idea of what should go where.

● This weekend my dad is coming to visit us, so we can’t wait for that! I’m sure he’ll make an appearance in next week’s post. He’s super excited about his little “grand flower,” as he calls her.

● I’ve been doing more Instagram-ing than Tweeting lately, so here are a few pictures from the past week or so.
