6 Month Baby Portraits: Benfield Photography

There are two things that I really, really love.

Iris.
And photos.

Okay, I love a few more things too… like my husband, family, friends, and mashed potatoes. But let’s go back to the first two, which are combined to bring you one of my favorite posts of all time.

The week Iris turned six months old we were lucky enough to do a session with Benfield Photography. If you live in Northwest Arkansas, chances are you’ve drooled over their photos – I know I’ve been following their blog for a couple of years now. Excited is an understatement for how I felt when I found out they would be shooting Iris. Todd and I even got in on some of the shots, so now we have some really great family portraits that we’ll cherish forever. Iris was quite the ham during the shoot, which made for lots of cute (and pretty funny) photos.

Here are a few of my favorites, which they posted on their blog here and here. Very special thanks to Dale and Meredith, who are as sweet as they are talented.

Pregnancy Blog: 23 weeks

It’s hot.
And I’m pregnant.

Summer is here and I’ve spent this week laying low and staying cool. It’s been a pretty uneventful week pregnancy-wise, which I suppose is nice.

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

+ We have a brand new roof on our house (thanks to our amazing friends)!
+ Todd and I have started working on getting the nursery ready. It’s almost time for the fun part – decorating!
+ Iris has been kicking and punching me quite a bit lately. I love it. Keep it coming, lady.
+ I’ve been putting headphones on my belly now that her ears are supposed to be almost fully formed. I swear she dances in there.
+ I’ve started looking into daycare (insert sad face here). This is one of the biggest things I dread. Not only is it incredibly expensive, but I already don’t want to hand off my baby to a stranger everyday. I know that I have to go back to work full time, but I’m hoping we won’t have to use daycare until at least January. There is an option about one minute away from my office that I’ve looked into and I’m hoping to take a tour this week.
+ Today is Todd’s first sort of Father’s Day (even though he doesn’t think it counts). My mom brought him back some fancy steaks from Kansas City, so we’re spending the evening grilling in our backyard. In fact, I’ve got some potatoes and strawberry shortcake to make.

See you next week, if not before!

19 weeks

Well, it’s week 19 of project baby. Part of me feels like it has dragged on forever, but most of me can’t believe that I’m nearly HALF WAY through the pregnancy.

Lucky for me I have a friend to go through this craziness with. The only downside is that she’s 5 weeks behind me, so I’ll always be the bigger one. Awesome. This week I’ve decided that I officially look like a pregnant lady. I know I’ve been showing for a while, but now it’s like… bam! I’m waiting for a stranger to ask when I’m due, but it hasn’t happened yet.

This week I still feel pretty darn good… as long as I get lots of sleep, LOTS of food, even more water (with tons of fresh lemon), and bathroom access every twenty minutes to pee. I’m feeling the flutters and thumps of the little one much more frequently this week, which is my favorite part of every day. It’s still too early to feel from the outside, but with as much as she’s moving around I have a feeling that’s coming soon.

Next week I’ll celebrate the intro into my 20th week in New York City. I’m curious how it will go traveling pregnant (and alone), but hopefully not much different than before. Just a few less beers during my layover. Hah.

GL and I took a few preggo pics this week.

18 Weeks

18 weeks! Well, nearly 19 now. This week has been a busy one (but SO much better than the last). In fact, just this morning at 2:58 am I became an Aunt again! We spent the weekend cheering on Katie and Caleb, who are now Mom and Dad to Cole David Murry. He’s a cute lil laid back dude who arrived on his actual due date, which I hear is pretty rare. Seeing how calm Katie was during the whole birth process was really inspiring. Hopefully I can pull it together and be like her when my time comes.

Hospital snacks.

Happy Birthday, Cole!
I can’t wait to watch you grow.

As for this week of pregnancy for me, my stubborn cold is gone, my baby is the size of a mango, and I am seriously getting bigger by the day.

No new developments except Todd and I have been discussing baby names. Meaning, I think of them and Todd vetoes each one. There is one name that we’ve both liked from the get-go, but finding a middle name has been a challenge (a fun one at least). I’ll probably wait until we know the full name for certain before I post it, but at this rate that might not be until she’s born. Naming a person is a task that we do not take lightly – we certainly want to make sure it will suit her for the rest of her life. I feel lucky to have a simple (non-makefunable) first name, followed by a unique middle name. Fortune is actually a family name, so I love the added significance too. I’m trying to keep that in mind when thumbing through my name ideas. We’ll see.

Other than that, I’m feeling great and can’t complain (especially since the halfway mark is just around the corner!

William, Kate, & Brains

Okay, just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I can’t have fun. While I might not be the life of the party these days, I do try to get out every once in a while. One of the best parts? The whole no hangover thing. Hah. Here are some photos from a couple recent shindigs…

This Friday my friend Jill hosted a royal wedding watch party (DVRed of course – there was no way we were waking up at 4 am). She went all out with homemade scones, vintage tea cups, William & Kate decorations, fancy hats, and Cathy even brought a wedding cake!

These are from Brains’ birthday party, way back in March. This was the same week I had my first ultrasound, so at the party we told all of our friends that we were expecting. So, I’ll always remember that night – mustaches & all.

I made brains cupcakes for the birthday girl.

People have asked how she ended up with the nickname Brains, so now is a good time to explain. In college, the university usually gives email addresses with the first letter of you first name, and the first five letters of your last name. Back then, her name was Brandy Rains. So there ya have it!

Since usually I’m in bed by about 8 o’clock, my nights of fun are few and far between. I guess I should have a few more while I can, but pajamas & thinking of baby names rate pretty high up there with me right now.

Love being lazy.

Lazy bums.

And a silly pregnant picture for good measure.
